George the clever grape was written by Peter Healy and Illustrated by Rex Lightfoot.In 1999 Peter went off to do his first vintage in the Barossa, leaving two young children behind to wonder ‘where had daddy gone’? He wanted to share with them his experience but in a way they would understand it, from beginning to end. Thus George was born. A page a week was sent home as his adventure unfolded over the following two months. Many years on and after George had done the bedtime rounds of many wine makers’ and wine lovers’ children, George is now being harvested for all Australian children to enjoy.
George lives in a vineyard and is supposed to be going to the supermarket on the back of a grumbly, bumbly truck, but he has other ideas.
George has heard of a place called a winery and from the minute he flings himself off Henry the harvester, over the fence and into a bucket on its way to a winery his life will never be the same.
George is on an adventure and nothing will get in the way of his dream, not to mention how many parents will secretly get to learn how wine is made while reading George’s adventures to their children.
